How to Become a Barber. Go to Barber School.

I recently decided to take on a new trade and decided to look into a few trade schools. In my search I came across a cosmetology program that I was interested in. Becoming a barber was always an option as I have been cutting hair for years without any type of barber license. After compiling a search of barber schools near me and finding out the barber license requirements for my state I was on my way to becoming a barber.

Barber School History

In the late 1800’s, the very first school for barbers was established in Chicago.  This was the 1st school available today on earth as well as rapid success soon resulted in by adding branches through the entire United States. Fast forward to current times and barber schools have generated the roll-out of schools of cosmetology where students learn everything you should know about styling, treating, and coloring hair in addition to natural skin care, makeup and manicuring nails. Barber schools have finally become beauty schools where cutting locks are one among many skills learned for the duration of transforming into a trained and licensed cosmetologist.

Why I Chose Barbering as a Trade

The way I saw it, I needed to make money fast. I could of went to a more difficult trade school for a more difficult trade but I chose something that I could get done in less than 6 months with little to no effort. I needed to make money fast and this was the quickest way to get to the money. After I started to make money I would later research other trades then transition into those. The only issue I have with barbering is the amount of time I have to stand on my feet. I am very lazy and this was not a good look for me.

How I Found a Barber School Near Me

I was lucky enough to come across a directory of barber schools throughout the United States. Come to find out, there was a top barber school near me right behind my house. I didst have to commute far, I just walked around the corner and boom I was at school. This helped me to get done with the course quicker as I was able to stay later and accumulate more hours to complete my program.

Is a Trade School for You? Which Trades Make Money.

If you would like to find a decent paying blue collar job there are an infinite amount of trades that you can take on. The only down side to trades are that you have to take months and sometimes years out of your life to learn them. But when you finally make it out you will make the money that you desire. The longer time a trade takes to learn usually equates to more money being made. My advice to anyone planning to get into a trade is that you should stay away from trades that everyone is doing. Find a sweet spot between supply and demand when it comes to students. You can do this by predicting what will be needed more by the time you graduate. If you prediction is correct you will come out of school in a high demand field.

These usually take up to 2 years to complete depending on the field you choose. For things like hair styling and barbering you can usually get through in about 9 months to a year. People who choose to get into this field usually have the desire to be sole proprietors and run their own salon rather than working for a barber shop or hair salon. Keep in mind when choosing to do this that this is a highly saturated field and in order to make money you have to hustle harder than the next barber.  There is a barber shop on every corner these days and it shouldn’t be much of an issue to find a job after you graduate.
